Regulate – Years Of Rage Review
Ich möchte unbedingt eines meiner Highlights aus 2016 mit euch teilen und serviere euch ein Review zur „Years Of Rage“-EP der Long Island/Jersey Shore Straight Edge-Hardcore-Band Regulate. Zur Zeit sind recht wenig wütende Straight Edge-Bands unterwegs, daher hab ich mich hart über dieses Release gefreut und noch in diesem Jahr pumpe ich das Teil bis die Platte zerspringt.
Wie schon erwähnt: krass böse Band, die schon erbarmungslos mit dem Intro einsteigt. Der melodische Old School-Start und der stampfender Übergang in den Moshpart, sorgen definitiv für einen Wiedererkennungswert. „Zero Tolerance“ fängt direkt mit ein paar saftigen Rrrrrrrrriffs an, die es in sich haben. Darauf folgen typische Old School Two-Step-Tempo-Parts mit mehr und noch mehr Mosh. Das Ganze wird außerdem noch durch eine angepisste Ansage an alle Edge Breaker untermalt – richtig fett.
„Antispectrum“ sorgt mit geilen Breakdowns für einen netten Übergang zum Song „Life Wish“. Dieser spittet euch für ungefähr eine Minute den blanken Hass der Band ins Gesicht ohne zu Atem zu kommen. „On Sight“ ist ein ähnlicher Überbrücker wie zuvor schon „Antispectrum“, geiler Beat zum jiggern und prolliger Lyric. Man nehme nun alle vier Songs und das Intro und schmeißt es in einen Topf voll mit kochendem Wasser, schon hat man „End Action“ als Resultat. Hier gibt Regulate nochmal Vollgas, gutes Tempo mit viel Groove, harten Breaks im Long Island-Style und Sing Alongs, um das ganze noch perfekt abzurunden.
Regulate erfindet das Rad in Sachen Tough Guy-SxE-Hardcore defintiv nicht neu, aber sie haben es geschafft mich mit ihrem Stil zu beeindrucken und haben sich somit in meine Top 10 für 2016 katapultiert. Fans von Trapped Under Ice, Downpresser, Until The End und was weiß ich wie sie alle heißen sollten in das Release rein hören, falls sie es nicht schon längst getan haben. Im übrigen sind die Jungs im Mai mit Coldburn und Blind Justice auf Tour, sollte man defintiv im Auge behalten! Und vielleicht macht ihr euch live selbst einen Eindruck von der Band. Von mir gibt es hier eine 8/10. Bitte weiter so!

I am very happy to share one of my highlights of 2016 and present to you a review of „Years of Rage“, the latest EP of Long Island/Jersey Shore Straight Edge Hardcore band, Regulate. As you might know, nowadays, there are only a few angry Straight Edge bands lingering around, thus, I have been very excited about this release. Now, in 2017, I still listen to that EP and will do so until it falls apart one day.
As mentioned above: a heavy band that starts off pretty ruthlessly right from the beginning of the record with their intro. There’s a quite melodic old school part right at the start and a stomping transition into the mosh part that provides the intro with a flavor we know and love. „Zero Tolerance“ uses some hard and heavy riffs that are really remarkable. It’s followed by a typical old school two step party with more and more, and even more mosh! Also, they’ve added a very pissed statement directed at all the edgebreakers out there – damn!
The next piece is „Antispectrum“ which contains awesome breakdowns and leads the listener to the next song „Life Wish“. That one spits the band’s pure hate right into your face without taking a break to actually breathe. „On Sight“ is comparable to „Antispectrum“ assuming its role as a bridge: awesome beat with harsh lyrics. Now take these four songs plus the intro and throw it into a boiling hot pot and you get „End Action“. At this point, Regulate really puts the pedal to the metal: good speed and lots of groove, hard breaks, served Long Island style decorated with singalongs.
I’ll admit, while Regulate hasn’t reinvented tough guy SxE hardcore, they have managed to impress me with their angry style and are amongst my top ten favourite records of last year. I’d highly recommend this release to fans of Trapped Under Ice, Downpresser, and Until the End if they have not listened to it yet. And, if all that isn’t enough to convince you, head out and see them for yourself. These guys will be on tour with Coldburn and Blind Justice in May. Mark your calendars!
